Welcome to the [BAP]!

What is the Bushwick Art Projects?

The [BAP] is a one day festival taking place on Saturday November 12th 2005 featuring innovative art of all mediums. Our Curated Art Exhibitions and Open Studios Programs will be showcasing painting, sculpture, music, video, dance, mixed media, site specific installations and the performing arts.

Our Curated Music Program takes it’s inspiration from music festivals such as Mutek and Sonar. We have selected some of the best Electronic Music Performers in NY to come and perform for us, showcasing them in what we are calling “The Factory” - a 5000 square foot wood shop that we are transforming, for one day, into a state of the art performance venue full of Video Projections and a 12,000 watt class A Sound System. We have partnered with SHARE, Wolf+Lamb, and the Bunker to make venue’s event something the likes of which Bushwick has never seen.

Our Curated Arts Program is featuring innovative and diversified art from all mediums, and are presenting creative differences through unconventional work. These curated spaces are featuring, and are predominantly, site-specific installations created specifically for the [BAP] event. In addition we are redefining the traditional art exhibition spaces by displaying art outside of a gallery context.

Our Curated Video Program, to be held at the local Performing Arts Center know as OfficeOps features some of the best video art and short films this side of Sundance. We are honored to be hosting the NY Premier of Sarah Teitler’s All Roads Lead to the Sea.

Our Curated Electronic Music Program, held in 5 venues all over the neighborhood, is being showcased in two distinctly Bushwick venues. The two featured venues are “The Wreck Room”, an up and coming local music establishment, and what we are calling “The Factory”. The Factory, by day, a 5000 square foot wood working studio, is being transformed into a video projection filled performance event space the likes of which Bushwick is yet to see.

The Day Shift in The Factory is a very special event indeed. We have partnered with the local video and music collective known as SHARE to host their communal style arts performances in The Factory from 4pm - 7pm.

Following SHARE @ The Factory, the remainder of the Day Shift is a curated Electronic Music program featuring a diverse and eclectic mix of 10 performers. We are honored to have Type Record’s Khonnor performing a very special set during the Day Shift. Additional performers in the Day Shift are So Takahashi, rj valeo, Calmer, Praveen, Omac, Handshake, Lance Blisters, Velapene Screen and The Groove Bros.

For the Night Shift @ The Factory, [BAP] has partnered with Brooklyn’s own Wolf+Lamb to close out our one day festival with a party featuring the world renowned DJ John Tajada. Additional performances in the Night Shift by David Last & Christina Wheeler, Wolf+Lamb & Dj Spinoza.

The Wreck Room is a Tradecraft records showcase featuring live performances by Charles Lear, Aaron Jackson, Mark Denardo, Oceanographer, and JayMay.

Where is the [BAP] taking place?

The location of the one day festival is spread out over a 15 block radius, focused primarily in the industrial park located roughly between the Montrose L stop and the Morgan L stop.

We have secured over 30 different venues located in 18 different buildings. The venues range from independent artists’ studios and local professional establishments to commercial production facilities and artists’ lofts.

When is the [BAP]?

The [BAP] is taking place for one day only on Saturday November 12th 2005. Our Curated Art Exhibitions and Open Studios Programs begins at 2pm on Saturday November 12th, and the Music Programs begin at 4pm on Saturday November 12th.

That is a big list! We have curated over 70 different artists - they live both in the neighborhood as well as outside the neighborhood, all are NY residents. In addition we have an Open Studios Program that has taken off in recent weeks. In Total over 110 different artists are participating in the [BAP]. For Individual artists listings please see the side bar as well as the online version of the program.

Why the [BAP]?

Simple. We believe in art as a conduit for change. The event’s theme is “Communication and Transformation” and we are bringing together both local and international artists to showcase their respective work together in the hopes that new relationships are formed, inspiration shared and friendships forged.

Our mission is to support emerging artists who are the source of current contemporary art and yet are underrepresented in the mainstream, commercial art world.

Our goal is to advance artists and art that may not otherwise be publicly realized and to address the multifaceted and complex nature of this culturally diverse neighborhood.
